In 2019, John started a band with a few other Stand Together partners. It led to creating Stand Together Music, a community that partners musicians with other changemakers to tackle many of our country’s greatest challenges. John now helps lead it, and the band still plays when anyone will listen.

Previously John was vice president of leadership engagement for Stand Together Ventures, and before that, he was director of university relations at the Charles Koch Foundation.

Prior to his work with the Charles Koch Foundation, John earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, and worked in golf course design and construction. He also earned a master’s degree in theological studies from Duke University and a doctorate in U.S. history from the University of Maryland at College Park.

John lives in his hometown, Rock Hill, South Carolina, with his wife and their two sons. He plays guitar and takes voice lessons every second he can.
