Musicambia seeks a motivated, enthusiastic intern to assist Development Director with all aspects of running a small, three-year-old non-profit. Musicambia’s mission is to create humanizing experiences in US prisons through regular music education.
Intern will assist Development Director with grant research, grant-writing, donor correspondence, social media, special events and more. This is a great opportunity for a college student interested in hands-on experience and insight into non-profit management. Applicants should have a strong interest in criminal justice reform, music education and/or music therapy. 4-8 hours per week, a minimum 6-month commitment. Musicambia’s flagship program at Sing Sing Correctional Facility in Ossining, New York is currently in its 4th season. We’re also planning return visits to our programs in South Carolina and Indiana and our sights are set on working with new facilities in New York State and Indiana. We are also developing an alumni program that will provide employment opportunities for qualified Musicambia alumni in an existing music program on Rikers Island.
At Sing Sing, we have a slowly expanding group of 32 men which includes students who started with us at our inception and others who joined in each of the seasons that followed. These students continue to produce astounding works of music of emotional and intellectual depth as well as develop their musical and instrumental skills in boundless ways. The administration at Sing Sing has reported a 100-person waitlist to join our program.
