“The relationships and community teach us how to be a part of the world again.”
–Musicambia Participant
Musicambia (“music” + “change”) develops music education programs and performances for people in prisons and jails.
Through training in music theory, instrumental and vocal technique, composition, songwriting, and performance, Musicambia cultivates collaborative communities that nurture the humanity of all involved.
We use the power of music to build supportive communities where incarcerated people can build meaningful connections, engage in learning, and rebuild their lives.
We believe music is an effective tool for developing positive self-image, greater self-confidence, and effective communication skills.
We believe a more humane criminal legal system in the United States is necessary and possible. We aim to dispel common misconceptions about incarcerated people.
